Something to invent with, experiment with and make original work on.
A creative language
A way to share ideas that standard notation, written words or spoken instructions can’t easily capture.
A creative meeting place
A way for people with very different abilities, backgrounds, art forms and experiences to make something together.
Ideas to start from
Six ways in.
Make music your own
Compose for a soloist, a choir, a band or a table of found objects. Draw the shape of a feeling or the rhythm of a conversation. Start with curiosity, not notation.
In HUBBUB:Solo mode for one player, or a lane for each part, with a printed part for everyone.
Teach through creativity
Bring composing into classrooms, workshops and community groups. Explore rhythm, texture, space and structure in sessions that welcome beginners and experienced musicians alike.
In HUBBUB: Three ready-made lessons on our Schools page.
Connect art forms
Put music, dance, theatre, poetry and film on one timeline, so everyone works from the same picture.
In HUBBUB: Play a film alongside your score, and use Grab frame to add a still.
Create together
Make a score with friends, a community choir or three generations of one family. Everyone adds something in their own way.
In HUBBUB: Share a view-only link, or invite up to five people to edit with you.
Make scores worth framing
A graphic score can be as good to look at as it is to play. Print it, frame it or give it away: every picture is an invitation to perform.
In HUBBUB: Export a PDF, PNG or SVG, ready to print.
Score the world around you
Turn a street, a walk, a memory or the pattern of the tide into a score, or make a portrait of your neighbourhood in sound.
In HUBBUB: Add your own photos, and play a recording in time with the score.
Three things to try
Make something this afternoon.
Each one takes less than an hour, and none of them needs any musical training.
1
Draw it, play it
Make a 30-second score and hand it to someone else to perform, with their voice, an instrument or whatever’s on the table. Set the page length to 30 seconds and press Play.
2
The sound of our street
Record the sounds of your street and gather a few memories from neighbours. Add the recording and some photos, draw a score together over the top, then perform your portrait of where you live.
3
A poem you can see
Type a short poem onto the page, then draw its rhythm, its pauses and its changing mood around the words. Ask three people to perform it, and compare.
There’s no single right way to write or perform a HUBBUB score. You decide what the marks mean, and HUBBUB gives you new ways to create, on your own and with others.
